Welcome to the DIS!

The German Arbitration Institute (DIS) is a registered association for the promotion of national and international arbitration.

The DIS provides administrated arbitral proceedings pursuant to the DIS Arbitration Rules and other procedures of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Additionally, the DIS regularly organizes conferences and seminars for the further training of legal practitioners and other interested persons. It also publishes various publications on German and international arbitration law.

Transition to remote working

Following the Covid-19 outbreak in Europe we are extending remote working. Our operations will be affected over the next days. We apologize for any delay or other inconvenience caused.


Temporary closure of the DIS Berlin office

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the German Arbitration Institute (“DIS”) Berlin office will be temporarily closed for an indefinite period of time.

For this reason, our overnight mailbox (Fristenbriefkasten) in Berlin is currently closed.

The DIS has taken a number of precautions in order to remain at your disposal. In particular, the DIS Bonn office remains open.

3. If you wish to commence an arbitration under the DIS Arbitration Rules,
    please note in particular Articles 6.1 and 4.2 of the DIS Arbitration Rules.

Article 6 Commencement of the Arbitration


The arbitration shall commence on the date on which the Request, with or without the attachments thereto, is filed with the DIS in at least one of the forms required by Article 4.2, provided that it includes at least the items listed in Article 5.2 (i), (iii), (v) and (vi). […]

Requests for Arbitration pursuant to Article 5 and Article 19 shall be sent to the DIS in paper form as well as in electronic form. […]

Postponement of DIS Events

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Europe and the risks associated therewith, the German Arbitration Institute (DIS) has decided to postpone all events planned for the next months until further notice.

The events concerned are the DIS Anniversary Celebration and the Fab Four Joint Seminar – CAM, DIS, SCC and VIAC (Bonn, 24 April 2020), the DIS Spring Conference and DIS40 Event (Stuttgart, 18/19 May 2020), the 9th DIS Baltic Arbitration Days (Riga, 11/12 June 2020) and the ASA Arbitration Practice Seminar (Kronberg, 26-28 June 2020).

Depending on the further development of the situation, we hope that we will be in a position to offer replacement dates in the future. Any such dates will be announced on this website.

We apologize for any inconvenience these postponements may cause and look forward to welcoming you at a future DIS event.
