What is your role at the DIS?

I am a Counsel with the DIS Case Management Team. In that function, together with the Case Administrators, I administer arbitral proceedings according to the DIS Arbitration Rules.

What path led you to the DIS?

I spent the first five years of my „working life“ in the field of data protection law, working with a supervisory authority for 3,5 years and then as an attorney. Because of private circumstances that made it necessary to relocate from Rhineland-Palatinate – where I was born and where I grew up – to Bonn, I decided that this was the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter in my career as well.

The open position at the DIS was the first job ad I came across in my search for a new job. When I was a student, I worked as a research assistant within the field of dispute resolution.

Somehow, I lost sight of this field of law along the way, although I always had a strong interest for it. This is why I consider myself lucky that – through this job – I got the chance to reconnect with the field of arbitration.

What do you particularly appreciate about your work?

There are a lot of things that I am grateful for, most of all my colleagues, who are amazing people and also great at what they do, for the opportunity to grow every day and for the environment that we work in. You will understand what I mean when you visit our headquarters in Bonn.

What motivates you?

I am not too fond of conflicts myself so I can imagine how draining it must be for parties to find themselves in long lasting court proceedings. My chance to make an impact and help them to resolve their conflicts quickly and without the involvement of state courts so that they can return to focusing on their acutal business sooner rather than later, is a big motivation for me.

How would you describe the DIS in three key words?

Precise, competent, welcoming

Tell us a fun fact we should know about you?

When I had to decide where I wanted to spend my year abroad in high school, I chose Norway because I am the biggest fan of the Norwegian band a-ha.
