Newsletter 11/2023 - Insights: Behind the Scenes of the DIS

What is your role at the DIS?

I am a Counsel at the DIS. Together with the Case Administrators, I am part of the Case Management Team, where we administer proceedings according to the DIS Rules.

What path led you to the DIS?

After graduating from law school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and working there as a lawyer for almost 5 years, I decided to do my LL.M. in Germany, at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. This was a great opportunity to start an international career and work in arbitration, a field I have long been interested in. Applying for the DIS was a suggestion from friends also working in arbitration and instantly felt like a perfect fit – there I could use my previous experience and dive deep in the study of alternative dispute resolution.

What do you particularly appreciate about your work?

I like that the work is very dynamic and that every day there are new tasks to do. The teamwork is also a highlight, especially because my colleagues are so competent, supportive and nice.

What motivates you?

Learning new things, having a cultural and social exchange with people and, through my work, providing support for parties to resolve their conflicts in a fast, efficient way.

How would you describe the DIS in three key words?

Efficient, precise, cooperative.

Tell us a fun fact we should know about you?

I love to dance Forró, a brazilian couple dance, but only began taking proper lessons when I arrived in Germany.
