Lunch DIScussions: Sanctions and Institutional Arbitration – Launch of the DIS Sanctions FAQ

DIS-Event

10. Jul 2025

Organizer: DIS

Sanctions regimes are increasingly influencing the conduct of international arbitration – posing challenges for institutions, arbitrators, and parties alike. How do arbitral institutions handle proceedings involving sanctioned parties? What legal and operational hurdles arise in administering such cases? And what role can institutional guidance, such as FAQs, play in reducing uncertainty?

These and other questions will be addressed by three experienced practitioners with institutional, legal, and procedural insights.

The panel will explore the practical implications of sanctions for institutional arbitration – ranging from payment restrictions to licensing requirements. The discussion marks the launch of the new DIS FAQ on sanctions, designed to assist parties, counsel, and arbitrators navigating this evolving area. Drawing on real-life experience, the speakers will share observations and best practices from within arbitral institutions and practice.
