Disputes arising from international transactions and investments are commonly resolved outside the state courts, either by arbitration or increasingly also by other means of dispute resolution. It demands specialized expertise, cross-cultural negotiation skills, and knowledge of diverse legal systems.
The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, held annually in Vienna and Hong Kong, is the leading moot court competition in this area. Designed to promote the study and practice of international arbitration and international sales law among future legal professionals, it provides teams worldwide with intensive training and preparation. Further information on the Vis Moot can be found here.
In recent years, the IRZ, the DIS, the CIDR and the German Arbitration Community have supported the participation of individual Ukrainian teams in the Vis Moot, both as a recognition of their resilience and to ensure their involvement despite the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
To coordinate these efforts and to provide broader support for the Ukrainian Vis community, we have joined forces with the Jagiellonian University and established a four-day Drafting Summer School on International Contract Law and Dispute Resolution. The program primarily aims at Ukrainian students participating in the Vis Moot or the CDRC , as well as those with a general interest in international contract law.
