The annual PhD workshop on arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, organized jointly by the Bucerius Law School’s Center for International Dispute Resolution and the DIS, took place on 4 and 5 July 2025 on the Bucerius campus.
15 PhD candidates from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland came together to discuss a wide variety of dispute resolution issues that are the subject matters of their respective theses. The workshop received support from the Karl-Heinz Böckstiegel Foundation and was led by Stefan Kröll.
Besides presentations on mediation and sport arbitration, the topics of discussion ran the full range of commercial dispute resolution, from the conclusion of agreements with arbitrators and the use of technology to issues around the recognition and enforcement of foreign awards. The lively and fruitful discussions, with inspiring contributions from experts including Karsten Thorn, co-director of the CIDR, and lawyer Ulrike Gantenberg, provided the participants valuable input for their academic work.
Besides the inspiring presentations, the workshop also included an evening event, which was an excellent opportunity for the young scholars to connect both academically and socially in a laid-back atmosphere.
