In international construction projects, the Engineer plays a pivotal role – acting as supervisor, certifier and often as a key figure in the emergence or resolution of disputes. But how does this role play out in practice, particularly under the FIDIC 1999 and 2017 forms? What challenges arise in balancing technical responsibility with procedural neutrality?
These and other issues will be discussed by three experienced practitioners from across the construction and dispute resolution landscape.
The panel will explore the Engineer’s dual role as certifier and potential dispute catalyst – reflecting on questions of authority, credibility and the enduring impact of the Engineer’s decisions in project execution and arbitration. Drawing on real-life experience, the speakers will share insights and highlight best practices under the FIDIC suite.
