Following three intensive days of discussions, fresh ideas and personal encounters at the DIS Conference 2026, the DIS community gathered once again on 12 May 2026 for its annual General Assembly. The meeting highlighted an exceptionally successful year for DIS and set the course for future growth.
A Record Year for DIS
With 218 newly initiated proceedings, DIS reached a new all-time high in activity in 2025. The amount of money involved in the disputes once again reached a cumulative total of EUR 4 billion. The diversity of proceedings remained a particular strength, ranging from traditional arbitration cases and sports arbitration to other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
DIS also continued to strengthen its international profile. Parties from 27 countries participated in DIS proceedings, while new partnerships with the Japan Association of Arbitrators (JAA) and the Silicon Valley Arbitration & Mediation Center (SVAMC) further expanded its global network. Progress in diversity also continued, with women making up more than 47 percent of arbitrators appointed by DIS.
A Community on the Rise
The DIS network continued to expand throughout 2025. New country groups, active regional initiatives and a record number of 118 events reflected the vitality of the community. DIS40 also continued its impressive development and now connects more than 2,100 young arbitration practitioners worldwide.
These achievements are supported by a dedicated network of volunteers and a professional team of 30 staff members based in Bonn and Berlin.
Strong Financial Results Create Room for Growth
The positive development was also reflected in the 2025 financial results. With an overall result of EUR 1.56 million, DIS significantly exceeded both its forecasts and the previous year's performance. The increase was driven primarily by growing case numbers and corresponding revenues, while also enabling DIS to eliminate the accumulated loss carried forward from previous years.
Building on this strong foundation, the General Assembly unanimously approved the 2026 budget. Key priorities include investments in digital infrastructure, information security and the further development of case management systems. In addition, the Berlin office will be significantly expanded, creating additional capacity for hearings, events and collaboration.
Broader Perspectives on the Advisory Board
Another important item on the agenda was the election of new members to the Advisory Board. The goal is to ensure that the diversity of the arbitration and ADR community is reflected even more strongly in the strategic development of DIS. Representatives from academia, business, professional associations, the judiciary, sports and other sectors will contribute their expertise and perspectives in the years ahead. Read more.
Looking Ahead with Confidence
The overall message of the meeting was clear: DIS continues to grow – not only in case numbers, but also as a network and a community. Supported by strong financial results, international momentum and targeted investments, the institution is well positioned for the years ahead.
