10 July 2025, online

On 10 July 2025, the Lunch DIScussions turned to a timely and complex topic: sanctions and their impact on institutional arbitration. We were pleased to launch the new DIS FAQs on Sanctions, offering practical guidance for parties, counsel, and arbitrators navigating sanctions-related issues in DIS proceedings.

Thank you to our speakers, Carina Alcoberro (DIS) and Greg Lourie (Schellenberg Wittmer), for sharing valuable insights from both institutional and practitioner perspectives to Sebastian Wuschka (Luther) for skilfully moderating the discussion and to Karsten Grillitsch for his opening remarks.

Key takeaways included:

  • the importance of early transparency on sanctions issues
  • practical challenges with payments, licensing, and arbitrator appointments
  • the role of institutions in balancing compliance, neutrality and confidentiality

We thank all participants for the engaging discussion and look forward to continuing the dialog.

The DIS FAQs on Sanctions are now available on our website.
