In the last twenty years, more and more solo arbitrators coined themselves as an ”Independent Arbitrator” to highlight their lack of association with any larger organization. In fact, conflicts of interest faced by law firm lawyers sitting as arbitrators are regularly quoted as the key reason for setting up an own shop. Yet, we can witness globally the emergence of new models for solo arbitrator co-operations that have, however, not yet made inroads into Germany. Among them are the traditional door tenant position with a leading Barrister Chamber, the set-up of Arbitration Chambers, now operating in various key arbitration centres, and Arbitra, a global platform for arbitrator collaboration.

All these set-ups have in common that they stem from and operate successfully in the common law world. In this edition of the Lunch DIScussions, we will explore with our speakers from abroad the different setups and discuss whether they could also be role models for German arbitrators.
