The latest DIS signature arbitration-week-events on wind farm disputes drew in participants from all over the United States and beyond. The 1 October 2025 event was in Atlanta, preceding the 14th Annual Conference of the Atlanta International Arbitration Society (Atlas).
Our event combined European and American perspectives. After a short introduction to the DIS by James Boykin of the DIS Council, our speakers contributed American in-house, law firm and academia perspectives. It showed that much more emphasis is put on onshore than offshore wind farm projects in the States. Like in Germany, a public debate is ongoing about where to build new wind farms – the famous notion of “not in my backyard” (NIMBY) seems universal! Again, we discussed the numerous types of disputes seen in this industry, which span from construction and commercial to investor-state, and what can be done to prevent unnecessary escalation.
The participants enjoyed the panellists‘ debate and chimed in with their own questions and comments. The event, hosted by King & Spalding, concluded with a reception of the rooftop terrace, which enjoys great views of downtown.
